Mae gan yr Athro Peter Huxley dros 50 mlynedd o brofiad mewn gwaith cymdeithasol, gofal cymdeithasol ac ymarfer ac ymchwil seiciatreg gymdeithasol. Fo oedd Athro Gwaith Cymdeithasol Seiciatrig cyntaf y Deyrnas Unedig a’r gweithiwr cymdeithasol cyntaf i fod yn Bennaeth ar Adran Seiciatreg (ym Mhrifysgol Manceinion lle bu’n gweithio am 30 mlynedd). Cyn dod i Fangor fo oedd Athro Gwaith Cymdeithasol cyntaf y Sefydliad Seiciatreg yn Llundain. Derbyniodd filiynau o bunnoedd o gyllid ymchwil gan ddechrau ym 1984, ac mae wedi ysgrifennu 10 o lyfrau a 200 o erthyglau i gyfnodolion a adolygir gan gymheiriaid. Bu’n cydweithio ar ymchwil hirsefydlog gyda Syr David Goldberg (‘Mental illness in the community: The Pathway to Psychiatric Care 1980) y diweddar Dr Richard Warner yn Boulder Colorado (‘Recovery from Schizophrenia in the 21st Century’ 2021) a Marcus Chiu a Kara Chan yn Hong Kong (‘Social Inclusion: Theoretical Development and Cross-cultural measurements’ 2022; City University of Hong Kong Press).
