I am delighted to announce that two clinicians who are close colleagues of CFMHAS have been given honorary contracts with the University. Dr Alberto Salmoiraghi has been appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer, and Dr Adrian Jones has been appointed Honorary Research Fellow.
Dr Salmoiraghi is Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director of the Mental Health and Learning Disability Directorate of BCUHB. He has a distinguished record as a clinician and medical manager in North Wales. He had the vision to develop and chair the Division’s Academic Partnership Board, which is unique in linking to two Welsh Universities (Bangor and Cardiff) and two English Universities. He has had a long involvement in research, and currently is the North Wales lead for ENROLL-HD, an international, multicentre research programme for people with Huntington’s disease. He has supported mental health research and teaching in North Wales and is a major asset to the Centre.
Dr Jones is a mental health nurse who has taken a leadership role in NHS mental health nursing in North Wales and beyond for many years. Although he has never held a substantive university post, his academic record is outstanding. He has taken a particular role in developing academic mental health nursing within BCUHB, and in building links between clinical and academic mental health nursing. In addition to more than 60 journal papers, he has published a significant text book, Nurse Prescribing in Mental Health. He has worked on important projects on in-work education for the mental health nursing work force. We look forward to developing new projects with him.
