Cristina Atanes

Cristina Atanes is a counsellor registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), offering a Mindfulness based practice. Experienced in the delivery of different mindfulness and compassion protocols, Cristina is particularly passionate in researching the relationship between stress, emotion regulation, wellbeing, and mindfulness in health and social care professionals and students. In her PhD in the Department of Health and Social Care Sciences at Bangor University, supervised by Peter Huxley, she found negative associations between burnout, engagement, mindfulness, and self-compassion and in her post-doc in the Department of Psychobiology at Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) she found the viability of an online mindfulness program adapted for university students.

In collaboration with Prof. Huxley, Cristina’s plan is to replicate this program to other students of the health and social care sector at Bangor University.
