Creativity and mental illness

Rob Poole had an editorial published in the British Journal of Psychiatry in 2003 about creativity, mental disorder and music that was widely noticed. This led to numerous invitations to speak, and eventually to an interest in the relationship between creativity and mental illness in general. He worked with Karen Heald, Susan Liggett and Catherine Robinson on the In-Between-Ness project, and he has formed groups that have bid for funds to research musicians’ mental health and related topics. Although unsuccessful, these bids have led to the formation of links with others interested in the area such as Jim Aitcheson, a composer based in Cornwall, and Leeds Music Hub.
