Overview

I am a registered mental health nurse and health services researcher. Following clinical nurse training, I studied psychology to PhD and later studied for a Masters in Public Health and Health Promotion at Bangor University. I am a Lecturer in Mental Health in the School of Healthcare Sciences, Bangor University, and have honorary research roles within the School of Medicine in Swansea University and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. My role includes working closely with two research networks across Wales; Mental Health Research Network Cymru (MHRNC) and Wales Dementia and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Network (NEURODEM Cymru). I have a broad interest in mental health research with active involvement with several research projects, often as chief or principal investigator. To date my research activity has largely focused on two main themes; treatment for depression and physical health of people on antipsychotic medication. I am a Principal Investigator for a large NIHR HTA funded multicentre trial of antidepressant treatment, I convene a Wales-wide research development group (ATHRAM), funded by MHRNC which aims to generate research ideas and proposals on the physical health of people taking antipsychotic medication. I am actively involved with and sit on a range of local and national committees including the Wales Mental Health in Primary Care Network.
