Overview

I have worked in and around the NHS for nearly 25 years, mainly in the community mental health field and higher education. I have been researching service user involvement and empowerment in mental health care for the last 10 years after successfully gaining an award for good practice with the Adfer Hyder project in Greenfield in Holywell, which was featured in Society Guardian in 2001 and on Radio 4 at that time.

I am also involved with Mental Health Nurse Academics UK (MHNAUK) the Higher Education Academy who have published a completed mini project including Professor Alex Carson and the Royal College of Nursing as a newly elected Welsh Board Member. I am a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the Royal College of Nursing International Research Conference and am a reviewer for the Nursing Standard and on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Mental Health Training, Education and Practice. I am a member of the North Wales and North Powys Recovery Network and have recently completed a travel scholarship with the Florence Nightingale Foundation looking at nurse led mental health peer support in the USA, and Europe. This will be presented at the Chief Nursing officer for Wales Conference in May 2013.

Some of my Papers are available on the Glyndŵr University Research Repository
