Trosolwg

Yr wyf yn y bôn seiciatrydd clinigol, a minnau'n cynnal swyddi ymgynghorol y GIG am 21 mlynedd cyn i mi gymryd fy mhenodiad academaidd gyntaf sylweddol yn 2009. Yr wyf wedi cynnal fy swydd bresennol ers 1 Gorffennaf 2012.

Cefais fy hyfforddi yn Ysbyty St George, Llundain ac yn Rhydychen. O 1988 i 2004 Yr wyf yn gweithio mewn rhan ddifreintiedig o Lerpwl ganolog. Roeddwn yn ymwneud yn agos wrth ddatblygu gwasanaethau megis y Tîm Cyswllt Cyfiawnder Troseddol a'r Tîm Estyn Allan Digartrefedd. Yn 2004 symudais i swydd gymunedol seiciatreg tebyg yng nghefn gwlad Gogledd Ddwyrain Cymru. Fy rôl bresennol clinigol mewn seiciatreg cyswllt.

Mae fy ymchwil hir dymor a diddordebau ganolfan academaidd ar sgiliau clinigol a materion o bwysigrwydd clinigol sy'n effeithio ar difreintiedig ac ymylol pobl. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys camddefnyddio sylweddau, yn enwedig alcohol a'r berthynas rhwng camddefnyddio sylweddau a salwch meddwl, gofalu am bobl â salwch meddwl anhydrin, arferion rhagnodi mewn seiciatreg, a natur y berthynas rhwng anghydraddoldeb cymdeithasol a salwch meddwl difrifol. Yr wyf hefyd ddiddordeb yn y berthynas rhwng salwch meddwl a chreadigrwydd.

Ers 2009 rwyf wedi datblygu cydweithrediad ymchwil cryf gyda'r Athro Catherine Robinson. Mae hyn wedi arwain at ffurfio y Ganolfan ar gyfer Iechyd Meddwl a Chymdeithas o fewn Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr mewn partneriaeth â Phrifysgol Bangor.

Rwyf wedi cyd-awduro dau lyfr ar fedrau clinigol â Robert Higgo, a’r rheiny wedi cael cydnabyddiaeth yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol. Cyhoeddwyd trydydd llyfr yn gynnar yn 2004, yn dwyn y teitl Mental illness and Poverty. Ysgrifennwyd hwn gyda Robert Higgo a Catherine Robinson.

Rwyf wedi bod yn ymwneud yn agos yn y ddadl bresennol o fewn seiciatreg dros y rôl o ysbrydolrwydd a chrefydd mewn ymarfer clinigol. CFMHAS yn cynllunio ymchwil ar y pwnc hwn.
