Trosolwg

Graddiais mewn Seicoleg ym Mhrifysgol Bangor ym 1987. Dychwelais i weithio yn yr Ysgol Gwyddorau Cymdeithas dair blynedd yn ddiweddarach. Rwyf wedi dilyn gyrfa academaidd braidd yn anghonfensiynol ers hynny.

Helpodd y Ganolfan Ymchwil a Datblygu Polisi Cymdeithasol i sefydlu’r Sefydliad Ymchwil Meddygol a Gofal Cymdeithasol (IMSCaR) o ganlyniad i bwyslais y Brifysgol ar ymchwil iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol. Yna daeth cyfleoedd a chyllid i ddatblygu seilwaith i gynorthwyo a datblygu ymchwil mewn iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol yng Nghymru. Rhwng 1999 a 2004 roeddwn yn gyfrifol am Wasanaeth Cefnogi Ymchwil a Datblygiad Gogledd Cymru (NWRDSS). Roeddwn hefyd yn arwain tîm bychan o ymchwilwyr gofal cymdeithasol. Roeddwn yn parhau mewn cysylltiad â’r Ysgol Gwyddorau Cymdeithas yn ystod y cyfnod hwn a chwblheais fy PhD (mewn polisi cymdeithasol) yn 2003.

Yn 2008, ymunodd fy nhîm ymchwil â’r Coleg Busnes, Gwyddorau Cymdeithas a’r Gyfraith yn 2008 fel rhan o strategaeth i gryfhau ymchwil mewn gofal cymdeithasol ym Mangor.

Yn ystod gyrfa brysur ac amrywiol, rwyf wedi creu proffil sylweddol mewn ymchwil polisi cymdeithasol. Mae gennyf rôl flaenllaw mewn ymchwil polisi cymdeithasol yng Nghymru.

Mae rhan sylweddol o fy ngwaith yn ymwneud â phartneriaethau â sefydliadau gwasanaeth. Mae hyn yn cyd-fynd â blaenoriaethau polisi Cymru a’r DU. Mae fy ymchwil a fy ngweithgarwch datblygu ymchwil wedi chwarae rôl bwysig i feithrin galluedd mewn ymchwil gofal cymdeithasol ac iechyd yng Nghymru. Mae hyn i’w weld mewn dau ddatblygiad pwysig.

Mae’r Ganolfan Iechyd Meddwl a Chymdeithas wedi deillio o gydweithredu diweddar â’r Athro Rob Poole, sy’n seiciatrydd cymdeithasol. Mae’r datblygiad hwn sy’n cael ei arwain ar y cyd wedi cael cefnogaeth Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr, gan ddangos llwyddiant cynnar mewn datblygu astudiaethau ymchwil dulliau cymysg o ansawdd uchel sydd wedi cael effaith gysyniadol ac offerynnol.

Mae Cydweithrediad Ymchwil Academaidd Gofal Cymdeithasol Cymru Gyfan (ASCC) yn fenter ar y cyd rhwng prifysgolion Bangor, Caerdydd ac Abertawe. Rwyf yn arwain yr ASCC. Mae’n ddatblygiad seilwaith pwysig ar gyfer ymchwil gofal cymdeithasol yn genedlaethol a bydd yn hwb sylweddol i ymchwil mewn gwaith cymdeithasol. Mae elfen Gogledd Cymru yr ASCC yn cynnwys ymgysylltu â mudiadau Trydydd Sector a hybu eu gallu i ymgymryd â gwaith ymchwil.

Mae cynyddu galluedd mewn ymchwil wedi bod yn nodwedd gyson yn fy mhroffil. Os am fod yn llwyddiannus, rhaid wrth gyfuniad o nodweddion personol ac academaidd, gan gynnwys y gallu i weithio’n effeithiol ag uwch gydweithwyr (yn lleol a chenedlaethol) ac i ysbrydol ac annog cymheiriaid ac ymchwilwyr sydd yn nyddiau cynnar eu gyrfa. Un o’r datblygiadau llwyddiannus rwyf wedi eu harwain yw Dulliau ac Ymchwil mewn Gwyddorau Cymdeithas (MARSS).  Mae’r cyfarfodydd hyn yn fforymau sy’n rhoi pwyslais ar ymchwilwyr sy’n creu amgylchedd cefnogol i drafod syniadau ymchwil ac i ddatblygu ceisiadau am grantiau ymchwil. Rwyf yn ymestyn y cysyniad Dulliau ac Ymchwil mewn Sefydliadau Gwasanaeth, gan gynnig yr un cymorth i ymarferwyr ymchwil gweithredol.

Mae fy mhroffil ymchwil yn adleisio â chynlluniau Cymru Gyfan eraill sydd o bwys i wyddorau cymdeithasol. Rwyf yn rhan o Sefydliad Ymchwil Gymdeithasol ac Economaidd (Data a Dulliau) Cymru (WISERD). Rwyf yn helpu i weithredu rhaglen ymchwil a datblygu WISERD.

Yn ddiweddar rwyf wedi datblygu cwrs MA Ymchwil Polisi a Gwerthuso.

Rwyf hefyd yn goruchwylio myfyrwyr MA a PhD.
